Organ Donation - the gift of life
Sean Kennedy made the simple decision to mark himself as an organ donor when he applied for his driver’s license. What does that mean?
5 people are alive today because Sean chose to donate his organs. When he died, his vital organs were available to people in terminal need. He was able to give his heart, both lungs, liver and both kidneys.
Some other facts about organ donation:
There are, at any give time, about 90 000 people awaiting organ transplants in the US each year, but only about 5000 receive the gift of life.
Some of the statistics I heard are scary:
Did you know that:
You can only donate your vital organs if you are declared brain dead? I didn’t.
Only 1 in every 10 donated lungs can successfully be transplanted?
Heart and lungs have to be transplanted within only 4 hours after being harvested? That means everything has to be arranged and planned down to the minute.
During our tragic time of losing Sean, we received great support and compassion from the nurses and doctors of the hospital as well as from the nursing staff from Livepoint, who planned and organized everything. They found recipients for Sean’s organs. I’m so thankful to know that even in his death, as he did when he was alive, Sean was able to help others.
This something we all can do Make a difference and become an organ donor!

Thank you to all for your compassion and support given to me and my family during this difficult time.
